Vijaya Vittala Temple
Known for its intricately carved stone chariot and the musical pillars, this temple is a must visit on a Hampi tour. The presiding deity in this temple is Lord Vitthala, incarnation of Lord Vishnu. It was built in Dravidian style of architecture in the 15th century by King Devaraya II.
Queen's Bath
Queen’s Bath- Located close to the royal enclosure, it is now the ruins of a grand bathing chamber, which belonged to the Kings and Queens of Vijayanagara Empire. Built in Indo -Islamic style, its outer structure is slightly plain compared to the intricate carvings in its interior.Lotus Mahal
Built for the royal woman of Vijayanagara Empire, it was also used by the royals as a place of relaxation. With the shape of the lotus flower, this two storied building is also known as Kamal Mahal and Chitragani Mahal. The central dome of this building looks like a lotus bud while its arches appear like petals.Elephant Stable
As the name suggests, this place was used to keep royal elephants of the Vijayanagara Dynasty. It has been built in the Indo-Islamic architectural style and still stands majestically. It has 11 chambers, each decorated with carvings. The centre chamber is the biggest and most adorned. It is one of the few structures which didn’t face much destruction during the Sultanate attack. Seated on a coiled Adisesha Nag, this 21.9 feet tall statue of Lord Narsimha is one of the largest idols in Hampi. Built in 1528 AD by King Krishnadevaraya, this idol used to have a statue of Goddess Lakshmi in seating position on its left leg, owing to which it is also known as Lakshmi Narasimha Temple.Krishna Temple
This temple was built in the 16th century by the Vijayanagara King Krishnadevaraya to mark their victory over the Udayagiri Kingdom, which is present day Orissa State. It is dedicated to the infant lord Krishna. You will also see 10 avatars of Lord Vishnu carved within this temple. The carvings on the arches of the temple and its pillars are worth admiring.Virupaksha Temple
You cannot miss Virupaksha Temple if you are in Hampi. Dedicated to Lord Ganesha, this temple allures everyone with its huge hall which is adorned with granite pillars. With a height of 4.6 metres, the idol in this temple is said to be the largest in the entire South India. It is a monolithic statue.Sasivekalu Ganesha Temple
Sasivekalu Ganesha Temple- An impressive idol of Lord Ganesha sits in the centre in this temple with a snake tied on his stomach. The height of the monolithic statue of Lord Ganesha is around 8 feet. This temple was built in 1506 AD during the Vijayanagar Dynasty’s reign. It is on an open pavilion, filled with sturdy pillars.Hemakuta Hill Temple
Known for the temples, pavilions and the archway, Hemakuta hill is a site for historical lovers. It is situated on the southern part of Hampi and can be easily accessed. Situated opposite the Virupaksha temple, Hampi Bazaar/Virupaksha Bazaar can be easily accessed. This market is around 1 km long and stretches up to the foothills of Matanga Hills. Day 2: Hampi to Badami. Aihole Sghtseeing
Morning after Breakfast, check-out from the hotel and proceed to Aihole sightseeing and then to Badami for over night stay. Enroute visit the below prominent places in Aihole.
Durga Temple
Built by the Chalukya Dynasty, this ancient temple is the most important location to visit in Aihole. It was constructed between the 7th and 8th century during the reign of Chalukya Dynasty. Displaying a Gajab Rasta style (back of an elephant), it has a mix of Dravidian and Nagara style of architecture. Here you will find images of Lord Shiva, Lord Varaha, Goddess Durga and Lord Shiva as Ardhanareeswara. The temple complex has an art gallery and a museum as well.
Archaeological Museum Aihole
Originally as a sculpture shed to keep all the things found in excavation, it was turned into a museum in 1987. It has 381 objects from various eras, showcasing Brahmanical, Jain and Buddhist faith. These antiquities include sculptures, inscriptions and various artefacts and belong to the period between 6th century CE to 15th century CE. It has 6 galleries and one open air gallery.
Lad Khan temple
This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and dates back to early 7 or 8th century. But as per some historians, its earlier structure might belong to the 5th century and was built by the 1st Chalukyan King Pulakesi I. It got its name after the Muslim general from Bijapur sultanate- Lad Khan, who stayed in the temple premises. It is said to be originally dedicated to Lord Surya. The relief panels in this temple display artworks associated with Vaishnavism, Shaktism, Shaivism, and Vedic deities.
Ravana Phadi Cave Temple
Dating back to the 6th century, it is a rock-cut cave temple dedicated to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. Representing the impressive architecture of the Chalukya dynasty, it is ornamented with intricate carvings. The inner sanctum has a Shivalinga, while you can see carvings of Vishnu, Nataraja, Garuda, Indra and Goddess Durga within the cave. It is only 1 km away from the Durga Temple complex.
Meguti Jain Temple
Another prominent site in Aihole, this temple was built in 634 AD. You will see Jain tirthankaras in seated posture in this temple. Here you will also get a panoramic view of the Aihole and the surrounding areas. A few steps below this temple, you will see a Buddhist Temple, which is partially a rock-cut structure.

Day 3: Full Day of Pattadakal Sightseeing
Morning after Breakfast, proceed to visit below Pattadakal sightseeing attractions.
Kadasiddeshwara Temple
Built in the 8th century in the Nagara style, it is the first temple when you enter the Pattadakal temple complex. It is dedicated to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. It has a striking entrance with carved walls while on the outer side of the temple, you will see Shiva, Ardhanareeswara, and Harihara.
Galaganatha Temple
It is also located inside the Pattadakal temple complex, and stands ahead of the Sangameshwara Temple. Within this temple, you will find a Shivalinga and an antarala in the sanctum sanctorum, while outside it has a statue of Nandi. On the entrance you will see Goddess Ganga and Goddess Yamuna. Within the temple, you will also find small sculptures of Gajalakshmi and Kubera. On the southern part of the temple, there is a slab displaying an eight-armed Lord Shiva killing the demon Andhaka.
Jambulinga Temple
Behind the Galaganatha temple, there is Jambulinga Temple. It was also built in the 7th century. Built in Nagara style, it has a sanctum and a mandapa and stands on a high pedestal. It resembles the Sri Huchchimalli Temple of Aihole in structure. You will see carvings of Lord Shiva, Goddess Paravati, Lord Vishnu and the Surya here.
Sangameshwara Temple
Built in 720 AD during the reign of Chalukyan King Vijayaditya, this temple is also dedicated to Lord Shiva. It also has a shrine of Goddess Durga and Lord Ganesha. The architecture of this temple appears similar to the Virupaksha Temple of Hampi. It has two tier shikhara, which can still be seen in many temples of South India. It has two entrances and a ranga-mandapa with 20 pillars.
Virupaksha Temple Pattadakal
It was built in 745 AD by Queen Lokamahadevi, who was the wife of King Vikramaditya II. It was constructed to celebrate the Chlaukyan’s successful military advancement in Kancheepuram. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, this temple has a majestic gateway with a Nandi mandapa. Within the temple, you will see several small shrines, a huge hall with multiple carved pillars. The columns in the temple are inscribed with scenes from Puranas.
Mallikarjuna Temple
Built in Dravidian architectural style, in 745 AD by Trilokyamahadevi, the second queen of Chalukya King Vikramaditya, this temple is similar to the Virupaksha Temple. It has three mukha-mandapa and a Nandi-mandapa in front, each displaying detailed carvings from Hindu epics and puranas. It consists of an antarala (antechamber), small shrine, sabha mandapa and a garbhagriha (sanctum). It is dedicated to Lord Shiva while the shrines for Goddess Durga and Ganesha are currently empty.
Kashi Vishwanatha Temple
Built in the 8th century, this temple displays Nagara style of architecture. Most of its parts are in ruins, you can see only the antarala and sanctum here. The sanctum of the temple has a black stone Shivalinga. The pillars in the temple have intricate carvings, retelling the stories of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati.
Papanatha Temple
Situated on the banks of Malaprabha River, it is one of the oldest temples in India. It dates back to the 7th century and is built in the style of Nagara and Dravidian architecture. This temple is dedicated to a form of Lord Shiva, Lord Muktewara. The mandapas in the temple- sabha mandapa, mukha mandapa and rangamandapa are adorned with exceptional carvings and have lattice windows. In this temple you can see stories from Mahabharata and Ramayana. You will also see many magnificent sculptures of God and goddesses here.

Badami Caves
A complex of four rock-cut caves, Badami Caves belong to Buddhism, Hinduism and Jainism religion. Dating back to the 6th century, these caves were completed during the rule of Chalukyan King, Mangalesa. The Cave-1 is dedicated to Lord Shiva (Nataraja), while the Cave-2 displays various incarnations of Lord Vishnu. Cave-3 is the largest and is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Cave-4 has an idol of Lord Mahavira and images of Jain Tirthankaras.
Badami Fort
It is a magnificent fort atop a hill with a mesmerising view. Initially built in 543 AD by King Pulakeshi of Chalukyan Dynasty, Badami Fort was later destroyed by the Pallava Dynasty. It was later rebuilt during the rule of Tipu Sultan. This fort has double-fortification and a huge cannon within its premises. You can also see a watchtower on top, and a statue of Nandi and Lord Shiva at the entrance.
Archaeological Museum Badam
Situated at the foothills of Badami Fort, this museum was built in 1982. It has a rich collection of artefacts dating from the 6th to 16th century. It has four galleries, each with a display of sculptures, inscriptions, stone items, decorated architectural members, etc. There is also an open air gallery. It has 181 antiquities which include Jaina image, Nataraja, Nandi, kirti-mukha, Shiva represented as Kalari, faded murals from Cave 3, Female divinities such as Lajja-gauri, matrikās, Bhairavi, panels with Bhāgavata or Krishnalilā scenes, etc.
Agastya Lake
Located beneath the Badami Caves, this beautiful lake holds great religious significance. It is believed that the waters of this lake have healing powers. Although you will find many locals engaged in their everyday washing at the lake, the view of the surrounding monuments and hills is still worth capturing.
On the eastern side of this lake, there are Bhoothanatha temples. It is believed to be named after the sage Agastya.
Bhoothanatha Temple
Located on the banks of Lake Agastya, the Bhutanatha group of temples belong to the 7th-8th century. Built in the Dravidian architecture style, this temple is one of the most popular attractions of Badami. It is the main group (East Bhutanatha group) out of the two Bhutanatha groups of temples. Other being the North Bhutanatha group or Mallikarjuna group (11th-12th century).
Dedicated to Lord Shiva, this fascinating temple is surrounded by waters on three sides and becomes inaccessible in monsoon. Along with a pillared mukha-mandapa, sabha mandapa, and inner sanctum with a carved image of Lord Shiva, there are several small shrines as well.
Mallikarjuna Group of Temples
Built in the 11th century in the Rashtrakuta architectural style, this group of temples are dedicated to Lord Shiva. Although it has plain outer and inner walls, this temple displays Phamsana style, which is a tiered pyramid structure. Its main mandapam has several pillars, which is then followed by an enclosed central mandapam and after which is the inner sanctum. On the north and the eastern side of the temple, you will see many small shrines, which together form a star shape.
