Day 1: Arrival, Check-in & Sightseeing

Pickup from Hospet Railway Station / Bus Station, Check-in to hotel, after fresh up proceed to visit below Hampi Sightseeing Places including:

Vijaya Vittala Temple

Built in the 15th century, it is the most famous sightseeing location of Hampi. It was built by King Devaraya II. It is dedicated to Lord Vittala/Krishna who is an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. The stone chariot and the musical pillars are its biggest attractions.

Virupaksha Temple

Dating back to the 7th century, this temple is a part of the group of monuments recognised as the UNESCO World Heritage Site in India. Dedicated to Lord Shiva/Lord Virupaksha, this temple has a captivating structure adorned with exquisite carvings, pillars and shrines, which were built during the reign of Vijayanagara Dynasty.

Malyavanta Hill

A popular place for trekking, this hill promises a memorable view of the town. It is often frequented by devotees too as it has a huge temple complex on the top. Malyavanta Raghunatha Temple , dedicated to Lord Rama is the main temple here.

Ganagitti Jain Temple

Situated on the way to Bhima’s Gateway, which is another popular attraction in Hampi, this temple was built in 1386 AD. Also known as Kunthunatha Jain Temple, it is dedicated to Kunthunatha, who was the 17th Thirthankara of Jainism. It also showcases impressive pillars and intricate craftsmanship.

Bhima's Gateway

A unique entrance to the fortified city of Vijayanagar Empire, this gateway was built in such a manner that one cannot cross it in straight-line. It is located between the Ganagitti Jaina Temple and the domed gate. It is said to be one of the most difficult entrances.

Pattabhirama Temple

Located in the heart of Hampi town, this temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. It was built during the Vijayanagar reign and has a Dravidian architecture. You will see beautiful sculptures and carvings within this temple. You will see architecture not only from Vijayanagara period but also from pre-Vijayanagara era.

Narasimha Monolith Temple/ Lakshmi Narasimha Temple

It is a huge impressive statue of Lord Narsimha sitting on a seven hooded Adishesha Nag, which is one of the largest in the entire Hampi. It is around 21.9 feet tall and was built during Vijayanagara King Krishnadevaraya rule in 1528 AD. This temple is also called Lakshmi Narasimha Temple.

Badavilinga Temple

With a height of 3 metres, this temple has the largest Shiva Linga in Hampi. The monolithic Shiva Linga in the inner sanctum of the temple is surrounded with water on all sides. This temple is very near to the Narasimha Monolith.

Krishna Temple

Dedicated to the infant form of Lord Krishna, this temple was built in the 16th century by King Krishnadevaraya. It was built after the win of Vijayanagar Empire over the Udayagiri (Orissa) Kingdom. Also known as Balakrishna Temple, it has a beautiful entrance and detailed carvings on its pillars and walls.

Kadalekalu Ganesha Temple

Housing the largest statue of Lord Ganesha in South India, this temple is a must visit. The monolithic statue is around 4.6 metres in height. This temple also has a huge mandapa with granite pillars. Near to this temple, you will find Sasivekalu Ganesha Temple and the Ugra Narasimha Temple.

Sasivekalu Ganesha Temple

Dedicated to Lord Ganesha, this temple was built in 1506 AD. It has an open pavilion, adorned with huge pillars, with a massive monolith statue of Ganesha which is 8 feet tall. This temple was built in the honour of King Narasimha II. Hemakuta Hill – Located on the southern side of Hampi, this hill is popular for the cluster of temples, archways and pavilions it has. Many of the temples here are dedicated to Lord shiva. Although several temples are ruins, they give a glimpse into the grandeur of their structures.

Queen's Bath

Built in Indo-Islamic style during Vijayanagara Dynasty, Queen’s Bath is a grand bathing chamber, especially for the queens and the other royal members. Although in ruins, it still showcases exquisitely carved interiors.

Mahanavami Platform

A stone platform of 12 metres height, within the premises of royal enclosure, it was built in 1513 AD by the Vijayanagara King Krishnadevaraya. After conquering Udayagiri Kingdom, it was built as a stage to watch the royal procession, which was organised during Mahanavami festival, giving the stage its name – Mahanavami Dibba.

Hazara Rama Temple

Constructed in the 15th century by Vijayanagara King Devaraya II, this temple used to be the private temple for the royal family. Small in size when compared to other Hampi temples, it showcases impressive ornamentation. There are relics and panels, carved with stories from Ramayana, along with pillared hall, ardha mandapa, and sanctum. The presiding deity of this temple is Lord Rama.

Zenana Enclosure

It is a secluded area for the royal females. It is rectangular in shape, surrounded by walls. Within its premises, you will see many prominent monuments like Queen’s Palace, Elephant stable, Lotus Mahal, water pavilion and the treasury building. On each of its side, there used to be a watchtower, three of which still remain.

Lotus Mahal

The residence of the royal family of Vijayanagara Empire, this alluring structure resembles a half open Lotus flower. Its carved arches, detailed designs on its walls and pillars creates an impressive sight. This two storied building is also called Kamal Mahal or the Chitrangini Mahal.

Elephant Stable

A collection of 11 dome chambers, it was built in the 15th century during the Vijayanagara Empire for keeping the royal elephants. It showcases the Indo-Islamic architectural style and is one of the few monuments which remained in good condition after the Deccan Sultanate attack. It is also very near to the Hazara Rama Temple.

Tungabhadra river coracle ride

A coracle ride in the Tungabhadra river is a must on Hampi tour. There will be many locals offering the ride. You can sail up to the middle of the river in coracle. You can also try fishing during your ride.

Kodandarama Temple

Dedicated to Lord Rama, this temple is known for its structural beauty and religious significance. It is believed that Lord Rama had crowned Sugreeva after killing Bali here. There is a holy bathing spot near the temple as well. You will find boulders with carvings of Lord Rama, Goddess Sita and Lord Lakshmana in the sanctum.

Achyutaraya Temple

Presenting a perfect example of the Vijayanagara style of temple architecture, it is a must visit temple if you wish for some quieter time. Located near the Gandhamadana & Matanga hills, this temple is dedicated to Lord Tiruvengalanatha who is one of the forms of Lord Vishnu.

Matanga Hills

Located at the end of the eastern side of Hampi Bazaar, it is a popular spot for viewing sunset and sunrise. Frequented by trekkers, the top of the hill promises a mesmerising view of the Hampi. It also has religious importance, as it is believed to be the place where Saint Matanga lived. There is also a small temple at the top.

Archaeological Museum Hampi

For a complete understanding of Hampi- its topography and cultural history, visit the Archaeological Museum. The entrance of this museum has a replica of Krishnadevaraya and his queens, while in the central hall, you will see a temple replica, showcasing Shivalinga, Nandi, and Gateway. It also displays excavated items from 1976 to 1998, including metal objects, armoury, brass plates, copper plate grants, stucco figurines, parts of porcelain pottery, gold and copper coins of Vijayanagara dynasty, sati stones, etc.

Anjanadri Hills

Believed to be the birthplace of Lord Hanuman, it is an important site among Hindu Devotees. The view from this hill is also worth capturing, especially of the River Tungabhadra amid the valley. It is also known as Kishkinda, as per the mythology. It is located in the Koppal district. You can reach the top of the hill by climbing around 575 steps. There is a temple at the top.

Anegundi Fort

Spread over the Anegundi village and most of Rishyamukha hill, the majestic fort of Anegundi is still known for its impenetrable sturdy structure. This ancient fort has a Durga Temple and Lord Ganesha temple, where the Kings of Vijayanagar Empire used to offer prayers before going for battles.

Pampa Sarovar

Located near Hampi in the Koppal District, it is a lake popular for its scenic beauty as well as religious relevance. Hidden on three sides by the hills, this pond has a rectangular shape. It is one among the five sacred sarovars of India. It is believed to be the place where Pampa, a form of Goddess Parvati, had performed rigorous penance to please Lord Shiva.

Sanapur Lake

A reservoir, which is fed by the Tungabhadra Dam canal, this lake is located 9 km away from Anegundi. The natural beauty of the lake and the surrounding hills is absolutely stunning. It is an ideal setting to spend some time with nature and a peaceful environment.
