Pampa Sarovar is a small lake in a secluded valley created by boulder hills near Hampi. It’s one of the most beautiful tourist spots in the region. The lake is usually full of lotus plants, floating edge-to-edge on its calm surface.

The place is considered sacred in Hindu mythology. As mentioned in the Srimad Bhagavata, it’s one of the five holy lakes. Hampi Pampa Sarovar Lake is said to be the place where Lord Rama and Lakshmana met Shabari. It’s also the place where Goddess Pampa, another form of Parvati, performed penance for Lord Shiva.

This lake is located near Anegundi (also known as Kishkindha), across the river from Hampi. And the stories related to Kishkindha Pampa Sarovar make it a must-visit place in Hampi, especially for religious tourists.

History of Pampa Sarovar

Hampi Pampa Sarovar is regarded as sacred due to its deep connection to Hindu mythology. Lord Rama and his brother Lakshmana passed through this place while looking for Sita, Rama’s wife. Here, they met an old woman called Shabari, a pious devotee of Lord Rama, and ate the berries she offered.

Another legend associated with the lake is related to Lord Shiva. Pampa, a form of Goddess Parvati, meditated and performed penance here to express her devotion to Lord Shiva. Thus, this place came to be known as Pampa Sarovar.
