Malyavanta Raghunatha Temple is a lesser-known tourist destination in Hampi with a unique connection between the region and the Ramayana era. The temple is dedicated to Lord Rama, and it’s believed to be where Rama and Lakshmana took shelter during their search for Sita. It was built in the 16th century by Raja Krishnadevaraya of the Vijayanagara Empire.

When visiting it, perform a parikrama (circumambulation) around this cave-like sanctum and take the deity’s blessings. You can also attend the daily pooja and peaceful recitation of Sri Rama Charita Manas carried out throughout the day.
2. Exploring the temple complex – Although Malyavanta Raghunatha Temple is small in comparison to many other nearby temples, it has a Dravidian-style structure with pillared halls. The complex also has sub-shrines of Goddess Sita, Hanuman and Lord Shiva. A gap found on the floor is filled with water, which is said to be made by Lakshmana’s arrow.
3. Enjoying panoramic views – The viewpoint near the temple provides a stunning 360° view of Hampi’s boulder hills, green fields and ancient trails. It also provides a magnificent sunset view with glowing skies over lush farmland.
