History of Pattabhirama Temple Hampi
Inscriptions on Pattabhirama Temple suggest that it was built during the rule of Achyuta Raya. However, it is believed to have been constructed well before his reign. It was a prominent destination for devotees during the period of the Vijayanagara Empire.
It was the central point to a suburban township under Achyuta Raya’s rule. This township was called Varadadevi Ammana Pette, named after her queen Varadadevi.

Architecture of Pattabhirama Temple
Hampi Pattabhirama Temple is built in the centre of a walled complex. Four entry towers are on four sides of the complex, and a pillared walkway runs along the inner side of the enclosure wall. The gates, however, are in a ruined state today.
Apart from the main temple, the complex has two large halls. The large maha-mandapa is a finely built structure with tall, slender composite pillars. The outer pillars facing the courtyard are elaborate, but the inner ones are relatively simpler.
The other ardha-mandapa hall is a covered pradakshina patha enclosing the temple sanctum and the antarala space. Beautiful sculptures of various deities are carved on these pillars and temple walls. A small shrine, perhaps dedicated to the Goddess Sita, is also in the temple complex. But no idols are present in either of the shrines.

Pattabhirama Temple is open from 6 AM to 6 PM throughout the week. It takes only around half an hour to explore the temple complex. Visit it in the evening or early morning for the most comfortable exploration.
