History of Hampi Zanana Enclosure
Zanana Enclosure is a sprawling complex constructed during the heydays of the Vijayanagara Empire. It was built for the royal women to reside and relax. It’s fortified with a wall and watch towers on four corners to keep an eye on the intruders. Today, only three of the towers remain. It’s believed that the watchtowers and the whole enclosure were guarded by eunuchs.
There is also an alternate belief that Zenana Enclosure Hampi was more appropriate as a king’s habitat. It’s because of its location near the Elephant Stables and the Guards' Quarters.
